UN Food Systems Summit - Do the meat industry have a seat at the table?

The short answer? We don’t know.

The goal? A straight-forward, simple, uncomplicated yes.

GMA (Global Meat Alliance) was born out of the fact that we, and our members, did not have a real-time global network for collaboration and insightful, informed alignment in a time in which the rules of old were thrown out the window. Our sessions, which have been running since the beginning of the global pandemic, provided a solution and armed a globally representative group with tested resources and the expertise of others to implement fast change within their own markets.

We would argue that, outside of COVID-19, the world we’re living in is mighty different to what once was and is changing, rapidly, day to day.

Why is universal collaboration a necessity and not a ‘nice-to-have’?

The upcoming United Nations Food Systems Summit, amongst others such as COP26, is a highly political and extremely influential event that could be a total game changer for our sector. And that’s not even the scary part. The real worry is that in the eyes of many, including our own, we are almost invisible in this arena.

To answer the call of our members, we’re embarking to change this. So we’re putting out a call to levy boards, commercial companies, interested individuals and anyone working in the meat or agricultural sector to share your thoughts with us. We’re interested in activity you have planned or are a part of and connecting with other organisations that we can work together with.

We aren’t interested in duplicating what’s already out there. Our purpose is clear. To identify what work is already being done, ensure this work is visible and accessible to as many as possible, identify where we need to collectively plug the gaps and finally, to amplify our the voice of the global meat industry.

We’d love to hear from you.

Laura & Ashley,
Global Meat Alliance
