March 2024 round-up; The latest on EU ‘meaty’ terms, The Power of Meat 2024, Earth Day 2024, A.I Update and Meat Business Women
We are pleased to have recently shared the March 2024 GMA Insights report with our members, which you can also find in full here via Trello on the first left-hand card.
The Big 5 this month:
The latest on EU ‘meaty’ terms
At the end of last month the French government issued a decree banning meaty terms including "steak" and “ham” on labels of vegetarian products saying it was reserved for meat alone. Meanwhile, Italy attempted to ban cultivated meat production and marketing but has since come into difficulty for its failure to adhere to procedures at EU level.
The Power of Meat 2024 outtakes
At the Annual Meat Conference in Nashville this month, Anne-Marie Roerink from 210 Analytics once again presented the latest Power of Meat Study; an American consumer study on meat usage, attitudes and trends. It ties in with the MLA Australia Day Lamb campaign advert narrative on generational differences and goes further to address their impact on the proportion of sales.
How to get involved this Earth Day 2024
Join an already powerful existing movement in 2024 and add your voice to the climate conversation. Planet vs. Plastics is the theme of this year, calling to advocate widespread awareness on the health risk of plastics. Telling our story on Earth Day shows we are involved, and industry's positive news stories are hugely important. So throw your voice in the mix and ensure it is a balanced discussion! #InvestInOurPlanet
Meat Business Women partnership
GMA were at the first of its kind Connect event by Meat Business Women (MBW) in London on 8 March, to hear how colleagues in the red meat and livestock sector can inspire each other. Also held was a CEO roundtable which saw leaders agree more progress is needed to improve gender inclusion, with an action-focused HR working group established to tackle this further.
and finally; How to ensure industry use the opportunities of Artificial Intelligence (AI)?
This month GMA talk to some of the organisations within the red meat and livestock sector who are using AI to revolutionise both operational efficiencies and marketing strategies. Both Beef + Lamb New Zealand and AHDB share some of the ways they are doing this already, and we share a longer blog on this topic on the GMA website here this month
RESOURCES AND COLLABORATION: Earth Day 2024
GMA have created a suite of social assets here for industry to use ahead of Earth Day 2024 on April 22nd, mentioned above. Plus, there is a ready-made full toolkit available on the Earth Day website here. If your organisation does not yet have activities planned and would like to get involved, then the toolkit provides ideas for how to join the global effort to advance sustainability and spread the messaging of this year’s campaign and our role in the campaign’s messaging for a better planet
