“No comment.” - The mistake the meat industry makes too often.
Here’s a fact. Dr Frank Mitloehner is full of them.
The irony in the conversation he had with GMA this morning was that he delivered his closing statement with the preface “this is my take-home message to you”, when, in actual fact, he delivered take-home message, after take-home message in the powerful, packed 45 minutes of screen time we shared this morning.
In our view, Dr. Mitloehner gave us numerous invitations to grab hold of opportunities that, as a global group working in a precompetitive space, we can run with.
Some food for thought:
Rethinking methane. Dr. Mitloehner challenges the existing explanation of the effect livestock has on the climate and the way this narrative has played out on the global, mainstream social / media platform. He gave us gutsy insight and armed us with some tools* to pave the way for global messaging in this space.
Unpacking sustainability. Dr. Mitloehner broke down the pillars that he believes forms the basis for sustainability. This could absolutely be something we could build a global framework around.
The why and how about leaving behind PR, becoming solely about ‘authenticity’ and where a global voice can deliver on this. More people are now asking questions about their food, with a genuine interest. The more we reply with a ‘no comment’, refuse to open the gates or hide behind an edited version of what we believe we evoke the least amount of questions, the worse off we will be. We need to welcome and invite the dialogue. This is an opportunity.
