August 2024 round-up; WIAW resources; Tune in to GMA Download & what’s coming up?

THE BIG 5: Read more on the brand new World Iron Awareness Week 2024 resources; Tune In (to the National Pork Board conversation!), see this month’s Cultivated Meat Update; Bezos Earth funding a new vaccine, and; What’s Coming Up?

Ensure you’re across how to engage and be involved; what came from key moments; actions industry can take, and how we share our voice - via our ‘Sector Snapshots’ pages covering current industry news of this kind. Here, we are excited to share featuring a brand-new GMA Download episode. GMA Download is our fresh, bite-sized format replacing the previous GMA Zoom calls, designed to deliver key industry insights in a more engaging and accessible way. For our first GMA Download we chatted to Dr. Kristen Hicks-Roof of Human Nutrition at the National Pork Board (NPB) who shared the 20 nutrition research projects NPB have in the pipeline. Dr Hicks-Roof discussed what these projects entail, their significance and a call to action for those within GMA to get involved.

Meanwhile, World Iron Awareness Week (WIAW) takes place on October 14 – 20 and this month we get ahead of the campaign, with iron deficiency still being one of the greatest global nutrition challenges we face. We encourage everyone within the meat sector to get behind WIAW and leverage the provided resources to educate and empower. We’ve compiled a new resources folder for you to utilise to get behind this World Iron Awareness Week including: a social assets toolkit (supplied by BLNZ); an Engagement Tracker (please contact GMA to have info included); Inspiration from past & upcoming activations and; the 2023 Supporters Summary – find it all here and see more info at ironweek.co.nz

EVENTS & INTRODUCTIONS:
Lock in sector events and key global moments, looking ahead from now until the end of the year – including the Love Lamb Week celebrating lamb’s versatility and naturally delicious flavour this September - into your calendars.

Finally, we are honoured to share an opinion piece with our colleague and IMS new Secretary General Dr Phil Hadley, who talks to GMA about his long experience and valuable roles within the meat sector, showing the collaborative approach between GMA and IMS as we look ahead to the future.
